Current-Mode Progress

The new Veros VNL will provide both voltage and current-mode phono amplification. In Bill’s words:

I have spent many hours this week building, modifying, testing, measuring and running calculations on these two little boards. They implement a new and very exciting approach for RIAA equalization in phono amplification.

RIAA equalization is what I am calling gain mode. It achieves a flat response not by attenuating the signal but by modifying the amp’s gain. Unlike typical active RIAA networks, it uses no loop-feedback. These characteristics are giving results that so far amaze me.

Next step: build a Veros VNL prototype to find out if it sounds as good as I think it will.
